Following my successful Fisher Schools Debating Competition in June, I want to help the rest of our local students to get involved, with a Fisher Schools Essay Competition.
The competition opened on Monday 13 August and the final closing date for entries is Friday 19 October. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are invited to submit an essay of 500 words on the topic “Should Australian Parliamentarians be allowed to hold dual-citizenship?” Essays should be submitted in typescript to andrew.wallace.mp@aph.gov.au and should include a Bibliography, which will not contribute to the word count. References are not required, but the essays should be entirely the student’s own work.
I will read and judge the essays, with the winning student from Fisher announced on Thursday 1 November. The winner will receive a $150 The Bookshop Caloundra Book voucher, and the opportunity to spend a day in my office learning from me and my staff about our work and experiencing some of our daily tasks. The winning essay will be published on my website, and mentioned by me in a speech in Parliament.
