The Montville community is set to benefit from a significant upgrade to the Montville Sportsground’s carpark under a re-elected Liberal National Government.
The $40,000 commitment will see an upgrade of the Montville Sportsground’s entrance road, which is currently a dirt track. In wet weather, visitors’ vehicles are prone to bogging, which is not only a nuisance to local groups and guests, but also poses a hazard to drivers and pedestrians.
Federal Member for Fisher and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Andrew Wallace said that this commitment was great news for the Montville Village Association and the groups who use the Montville Sportsground.
“The Montville Sportsground precinct is used by a growing number of community groups and activities on the Range; however its carpark is in dire need of an upgrade,” Mr Wallace said.
“I am proud to have been able to secure this support from a re-elected Liberal National Government, which will upgrade the carpark entrance. For families dropping the kids off to soccer on Saturday or heading out to play tennis or joining the woodcrafters, an upgraded entry road will make the grounds safer and more accessible,” he added.
Michael Bradley, President of the Montville Village Association, welcomed the announcement, indicating that the project is a crucial start to a larger upgrade project.
“This is a very important project for the Montville community. As we have seen with local events such as last week’s ‘Woodies’ Open Day, the dirt road is deteriorating and accessibility to the sportsground is very limited.” Mr Bradley said.
“Without dollars and cents, you can’t get anything done in practical terms. This commitment will allow greater access to the property and will begin a wider redevelopment for community use long into the future,” he added.
The Montville Sportsground is managed by the Montville Village Association and its Sportsground Committee. The precinct is home to groups such as the Montville Tennis Club, Range United Soccer Club, and Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild and is regularly used by the local Montville community.
This is another example of the Liberal National Government backing local sporting and community groups and delivering a stronger future for Fisher.
