I’m proud today to inform the House that a major tourist development in my electorate of Fisher has been recognised as one of the best in Australia and the South Pacific.
The Sunshine Coast’s Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World has been voted by TripAdvisor travellers as the top attraction in Queensland, and the 13th top attraction in the South Pacific, being rated alongside some of the world’s most recognised landmarks, including the Sydney Opera House, the Australian War Memorial and Uluru.
I’ve visited the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World, and I can attest that it is a staggeringly beautiful place and a testament to years of hard work by the team. I’d like to congratulate those involved, especially the General Manager, Verena Olesh.
This latest accolade is a great reminder that nominations for the 2025 Fisher Community Awards are closing soon, on August 17.
Now in its eighth year, I’m very proud to have established the Fisher Community Awards to recognise the thousands of people who work tirelessly in the Fisher electorate, without any expectation of recognition, to make our community the best in Australia.
I continue to be amazed at the range of activities that Fisher residents are involved in, and the number of individuals and families they assist.
As everyone in this House would know, the future doesn’t just happen. It’s built by people. People who give back, who lead, and who serve our community.
This is our opportunity to recognise them and I encourage all Fisher residents to apply.
