MEDIA STATEMENT 10 November 2025
I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Ian Leavers APM – a fearless advocate for Queensland’s police, and a respected leader in our state’s law enforcement community.
Ian’s decades of service, both as a frontline officer and as President of the Queensland Police Union, were marked by an unwavering commitment to the safety, welfare, and dignity of those who serve. He was never afraid to speak up for what he believed was right, and he earned the respect of colleagues, governments, and communities across Queensland for his principled leadership.
As Queensland’s first Cross-Border Commissioner, Ian brought the same passion and clarity of purpose to addressing the unique challenges faced by our border communities. His legacy will endure in the many reforms he championed and the countless officers whose lives and working conditions he championed.
On behalf of the Fisher electorate and the broader Queensland community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ian’s family, friends, and the entire Queensland Police Service. His loss will be felt deeply, but his contribution will not be forgotten.
May he rest in peace.
