Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace MP, will once again partner with Fortem Australia to host a Thank a First Responder Day BBQ, bringing together first responders, volunteers and community members to recognise those who dedicate their lives to keeping the Sunshine Coast safe.
Now in its second year, the event will be held on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, with members of the public encouraged to attend and personally thank the emergency services personnel who serve communities across Fisher.
Mr Wallace said the overwhelming success of last year’s event demonstrated how much first responders value the support and appreciation of the communities they protect.
“Last year’s event was incredibly well received, and it was clear just how much a simple thank you means to the men and women who put themselves on the front line for our community every day,” Mr Wallace said.
“Whether they’re responding to emergencies, natural disasters, road accidents, rescues at sea or community incidents, our first responders consistently step up when others need help most.”
“This event is an opportunity for the entire Fisher community to come together and recognise their service, sacrifice and dedication.”
Mr Wallace said he was particularly pleased to see the event expand this year, with Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club hosting the BBQ and helping open it up to the broader community.
“As an active surf lifesaver, I know the commitment required to serve in emergency and volunteer organisations. I’m grateful to Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club for hosting this year’s event and helping create an opportunity for the public to come along and show their appreciation.”
Fortem Australia, the national not-for-profit organisation supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families, has again partnered with and financially supported the event.
Fortem Australia regional director Daniel Staton said Thank a First Responder Day continues to be an important reminder of the contribution first responders make to communities across Australia.
“First responders are often there for people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Thank a First Responder Day is an opportunity to turn gratitude into action and recognise the sacrifices made by first responders and their families throughout their careers.”
“We are proud to once again partner with Andrew Wallace MP and local organisations to celebrate and support the first responder community across the Sunshine Coast.”
Surf Life Saving Queensland Chief Operating Officer Gregory Cahill said the organisation was delighted to see one of its 58 clubs across the state, Alexandra Headland, as host of this year’s event.
“Surf Life Saving is built on service to the community, so hosting an event that recognises all first responders is a natural fit for Surf Life Saving Queensland and our club network.
We know that the Alexandra Headland members and SLSQ Sunshine Coast Branch staff are looking forward to welcoming emergency services personnel, volunteers and members of
the public to the Club and helping celebrate the incredible work being done right across the Sunshine Coast.”
Mr Wallace said Fisher was fortunate to be home to dedicated police officers, paramedics, firefighters, SES volunteers, lifesavers, marine rescue crews and many other emergency service personnel.
“Our community has seen firsthand the difference first responders make during major weather events, emergencies and disasters.”
“I encourage everyone to come along, grab a snag and join us in thanking the people who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.”
